About A/Prof Gopal Sivagangabalan
A graduate of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1999, Associate Professor Gopal Sivagangabalan completed his Cardiology training at Westmead Hospital, Australia (WHA). Following completion of a Doctor of Philosophy through the University of Sydney (USYD), he undertook a combined research/clinical fellowship in Electrophysiology & Pacing at the Toronto General Hospital – Canada (CA), where he was awarded the 2010 Research Fellowship award from the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and was a Finalist for the prestigious Young Investigators Award (Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Sessions, Denver, USA).
In addition to his appointment as the Head of the Cardiology Department at Auburn Hospital & the Clinical lead for Cardiac Pacing & Defibrillation at the Westmead, Gopal’s extensive clinical career has focused on all aspects of procedural cardiology from electrophysiology & ablation to complex device implantation, to coronary intervention. He also has extensive experience reporting cardiac computed tomography. This blend brings a unique skilled set for complex LV lead insertion & successful CRT implementation.
Gopal’s passion for education is clear. Over the past three years, he has run several successful device implant courses to train & upskill both (AUS) & international colleagues, particularly in CRT. He is also a frequent presenter at many international Electrophysiology congresses & is regarded as a highly skilled operator both nationally & internationally.
