Singapore General Hospital

Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is Singapore’s first and largest hospital. It provides affordable specialist care for patients, training for doctors and other healthcare professionals, and conducts research to bring better care to its patients.

A not-for-profit institution, SGH is wholly owned by the Singapore government and is the flagship hospital of the public health system. SGH is a member of the SingHealth cluster of healthcare institutions.

Patient Care

SGH sees patients referred by family physicians as well as specialists in both public and private practice. The hospital provides a wide range of medical services within a complex. The SGH campus co-locates 5 national specialist centers, facilitating a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment. SGH practices team-based care, which is delivered by physicians, nurses as well as allied health professionals.

Every year, the SGH campus serves more than 1 million patients. With a 10,000-strong workforce, SGHs account for about a quarter of the total acute hospital beds in the public sector and about one-fifth of the acute beds nationwide.

SGH is accredited by The Joint Commission International to meet safety and quality standards in healthcare. In 2010 it achieved the first Magnet accreditation in Asia for nursing excellence awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
