Four Tips for Improving Workplace Health
Are you taking steps to stay healthy in the workplace? During the height of cold and flu season, it’s important to take extra precautions to stay healthy and avoid spreading illness. Here are four easy #tips to improve your health at your office and workplace.
1. Eat Healthily
It is essential to start your morning with a full breakfast to keep your energy and stomach full! When you fill your diet with fruits and vegetables, you load your body with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to fight off bacteria and viruses to keep illness at bay. Avoid overeating sugary and fatty foods and limit your time spent eating at your desk. When you feel like your meal needs an extra energy boost, swap your afternoon desk snacks for healthier options like fruit, nuts, or even a parfait (yogurt is great for gut health!).
2. Take Breaks
You may think that taking a break from your day job is taking away from the time you could be working. In fact, working long hours without breaks is preventing you from reaching your full work potential. Spend a few minutes of your day, every few hours, walking, stretching, and revitalizing. You’ll be surprised how it helps manage your stress and increase productivity.
3. Stay Hydrated
When 3 pm cools down on your work day, you’re probably heading to the break room for some much-needed caffeine. But wait! Did you know that, more often than not, your afternoon caffeine cravings are actually a sign of dehydration? Instead have some herbal tea and a large glass of water. Remember, you should drink 6-8 glasses of water during your work day! To achieve this, always keep a water bottle nearby and aim to refill it at least 5 times before 5 pm.
4. Be Hygienic
Hygiene goes a long way outside the home. In fact, workplace hygiene is just as important as taking a shower regularly. Avoid talking or coming into contact with those who have recently been sick or sick colleagues. Make sure you wash your hands as much as possible. Keep a hand sanitizer accessible at your desk for yourself and office visitors to stop germs from spreading. Finally, consider spending the last 5 minutes of your day cleaning your workspace and disinfecting surfaces, especially those that are used frequently, such as your phone, mouse, and keyboard.
After all, health is wealth and an apple a day keeps the doctor away! By working these four simple and easy tips into your workplace, you can help fight illness and eliminate germs you may come into contact with.
