About Dr Barry Kosofsky

Dr. Barry Kosofsky is Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation Professor of Pediatrics and Horace W. Director of the Goldsmith Foundation Laboratory of Molecular and Developmental Neuroscience He is a professor of pediatrics, radiology, neurology, and neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medicine and a pediatrics specialist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and NYP Komansky Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in neurology with special competencies in child neurology and brain injury medicine. B.A., M.A. in Biophysics at Johns Hopkins University. After receiving this, Dr. Kosofsky entered the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree (M.D.) and Ph.D. in neuroscience. He completed his pediatric residency training at Children’s Hospital in Boston and his neurology residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the MGH-East Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory.

A current focus of her research is identifying biomarkers predictive of ongoing symptoms following traumatic brain injury. That effort now includes the use of visual tracking, structural brain imaging, and functional assessments of vision, balance, and exercise tolerance to elucidate the specific consequences of traumatic brain injury, as a starting point for isolation therapy for individuals with ongoing post-traumatic stress disorder. More recently this included a study that identified the benefit of a graded exercise program for people unable to return to baseline levels of mental and physical functioning after mild traumatic brain injury.
