About Dr Ethel Cesarman
Dr. Siegerman is trained in anatomic pathology, nbsp; hematopathology, and molecular pathology. He serves as Assistant Director of the Molecular Hematopathology Laboratory at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Siegerman’s research focuses on the malignancies associated with AIDS and other immunodeficiencies. Dr. Siegerman is the leader of the pathology core of the AIDS Malignancy Consortium and has been involved in the diagnosis of these tumors in multiple national and international clinical trials.
Ongoing research in the Seisserman laboratory aims to characterize the oncogenes encoded by KSHV and EBV, dissect the mechanisms of transformation by these viruses, and understand their role in the development of malignant lymphoma or Kaposi’s sarcoma. By identifying viral proteins that transmit survival signals to tumor cells, we can better understand the role they play in carcinogenesis. The laboratory is currently developing inhibitors of these oncogenic viral proteins as a novel approach for the treatment of EBV- and KSHV-related malignancies.
